Munster, Ireland and Lion’s call-up Alan Quinlan has been handed a 12 week ban for gouging Leo Cullen in the Heineken Cup semi-final. The Munsterman (34) learned his fate at today’s disciplinary hearing in Dublin …

This must surely rule him out of the Lions Tour who depart next week for South Africa …

The silly man … what an opportunity to blow !

1. Francis Mahon - May 13, 2009

I was listening to the RTE Radio 1 coverage of the match, and could hear the disbelief in the commentator’s voice when he spotted the incident – he didn’t mention Quinlan by name, but he expressed dismay at the actions of the then unnamed (but well-known) player.

While it is a disappointment that he misses out on the Lions tour, his actions left “the powers that be” with no other option.

yeah exactly since they had just banned two other guys including Neil Best for doing the same … it’s his own fault … and it was captured excellently on slow-mo replays too …

Sad for us to lose 2 players from our Lion’s contingent but I’d wager on Leamy being called up before the tour is out …
