A brief introduction to Kiwiana … those funny things that the Kiwis say that makes you stop and go “Huh?”
2 per day I reckon – this one might run and run …
To give your ferret a run – means to have ones way with someone …
To pack a sad – means to cry or become sad or grumpy …
Excellent stuff ! I’m so glad you’re settling in well in NZ.
Here in Oz, we also say “chuck a sad” or “chuck a wobbly” .
Also, thanks to your kind encouragement, I did start a blog (you may have forgotten, but you asked me about this once). Mostly its just flowers and garden stuff, but I’m enjoying it. Thanks again for your kind words.
Those are, ahem, unusual!
pack a sad = greetin’ face (Scots -crying/looking miserable)
(don’t know about the other one though, and I’m not going to ask my (male) Scottish friend, either!
)
This will be fun, RM…I’ll try some of them out on my Kiwi friend…hopefully I won’t get him too homesick, and make him pack a sad!
